Kota Kinabalu MP: Take stern action against those slandering aid from China

KOTA KINABALU: Stern action should be taken against those who alleged that personal protective equipment (PPE) donated to Sabah by China is contaminated, says Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin (pic). “I have received many complaints from the public that there is fake news on social media alleging that the masks and gloves donated are contaminated. The fake news has also described the Chinese government as ‘evil’ and in cahoots with DAP,” said Chan on Friday (April 3). He added that the consul-general of China in Kota Kinabalu donated 166,000 face masks to the Sabah government on March 29 and said that the items were handed over to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal,” he said. Chan added that the face masks were flown in via a chartered AirAsia flight from Guangzhou, China to Kota Kinabalu. Speaking about the viral news, Chan said that it could threaten the ongoing efforts to save Malaysians from the Covid-19 pandemic. “All of the racist slander can have far-reaching consequences and undermine the good diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China,” said Chan. He urged police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take stern action against those who spread fake news about the Chinese government’s assistance to Sabah.
