Nature society launches mobile app

MALAYSIAN Nature Society (MNS), an environmental non-governmental organisation (NGO), celebrated Malaysia Day and its 80th anniversary with a difference this year. To educate more people on environmental issues, it launched a mobile application. MNS president Prof Dr Ahmad Ismail said the app was timely to disseminate information to the people. “All our members and followers, from all over, be it rural or urban areas can now keep abreast with our programmes and projects and access the latest news and know-how from MNS.” He said the society collaborated with App Lab Sdn Bhd and CTC Global Sdn Bhd for the mobile application which was seen as a creative tool to educate the public on environmental matters. Prof Ahmad added that people could use the app to report environmental problems, on wildlife found in their areas, give feedback and even apply for MNS membership. “We want people to know that simple acts such as segregating waste, recycling plastic, conserving water and electricity, avoiding littering or even sharing environmental care tutorial videos can contribute to clean waterways. “We want them to know their actions can also save the country’s rich biodiversity,” he said. CTC Global Sdn Bhd (CTC Malaysia) managing director Dennis Koh said the company was pleased to support MNS in its educational effort via the mobile application. “As a systems integrator and cloud service provider, CTC Malaysia is in a position to enable organisations like MNS grow using technology” said Koh. He explained that CTC would host the newly-launched application on the CUVIC cloud platform for the next three years. “One of the advantages that MNS will experience with cloud technology is that it will be able to focus on its core mission without having to worry about managing the software, IT infrastructure and IT staff. “In addition, users are assured of 99.9% systems uptime and importantly, data sovereignty. “We look forward to collaborating with MNS to help it leverage on digital transformation to reach more Malaysians and succeed in its conservation efforts,” said Koh. App Lab Sdn Bhd managing director Tan Kok Pin said the company, as an application developer, took pride in ensuring the design and interface of the app was trendy yet easy to use for even non tech-savvy users. “Many important news and educational updates get lost these days in the cluttered highway of the social media newsfeed. As such, a dedicated platform such as an app will help MNS convey timely and accurate information,” he said. The MNS mobile app is available on Google Play.
