PM affirms commitment towards Shared Prosperity Vision 2030

KUALA LUMPUR: Prosperity would not mean anything if everyone in the country could not enjoy it, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. He added that every Malaysian should prosper together. He said that under the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV2030), no one would be left behind.“Prosperity is colour blind. It must not discriminate against anyone.“Regardless of whether you are a Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh, Iban, Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Bidayuh, Bajau, Melanau, Orang Asal, all of you have the right to be prosperous and successful in this country,” he said during a town hall session on the SPV2030 organised by Institut Masa Depan Malaysia here yesterday.Launched in 2019 by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, SPV2030 is a commitment to make Malaysia a nation that can achieve sustainable growth along with fair and equitable distribution across income groups, ethnicities, regions and supply chains to provide a decent standard of living for all citizens by 2030.Muhyiddin admitted that racial tension was a problem that still plagued the country, especially as social media plays a big role in communication.“Because of this, there is uneasiness which affects the relationship between the communities.“Things like this should not continue,” he said when asked about the effect identity politics could have on the aims of SPV2030.Muhyiddin said that while racial tension couldn’t be totally erased, it should not be allowed to negatively effect the country.“For example, the topic of distribution of wealth: The Malays, who are the biggest component of the community, may feel that they are not being defended, that they need more although there was the New Economic Policy.“If we look back, there were leakages and other bad things that have happened.“The feeling of non-satisfaction is still there.“But among other communities, the Chinese and Indians, there are similar issues as well.“The question is how the Perikatan Nasional government is going to address these issues so that it is not seen as racial,” he added. To another question, Muhyiddin said that the policies in the SPV2030 would not solve all the problems of the country, but it could help overcome a lot of inequalities in the community.“It is a big policy. It is not easy. But the challenge is on us,” he said, adding that the Perikatan government was totally committed to the SPV2030.Muhyiddin said the government will set up the Shared Prosperity Action Council which will act as a top-level monitoring mechanism so that the objectives of the SPV2030 can be achieved.“I will chair the council, and the Shared Prosperity Delivery Unit (Sepadu) will act as the council secretariat and the committees under it,” he added. He said Sepadu was formed in March to lead the coordination and monitoring functions of the programme’s implementation, initiatives and also projects under SPV2030.
